And here it is. I got home three hours after it went live, and there’s a plethora of comments in my email. I’m too scared to read them. 13 Do’s and Don’ts of Raiding Holy Priests, GO! I already have an idea of what to write next week, but I’ve been slotted in for their Sundays from what I see here.
I’m almost too scared to read said comments. But that’s okay! Because feedback is good!
Congrats!
You did great!
And good luck in the future with your new column! =D
Grats Matt, well deserved mate 🙂
Gratz Matty! Well written article. We wouldn’t expect anything less 🙂
Nice. I’ve been levelling fishing today so put some thought in to what the best buff food for healing is.
From Elitist jerks the formula for priest based spirit regen is (eye wateringly)
5 * 0.0093271 * Spirit * Square_root ( Intellect ) per tick (every 2 seconds)
With my current stats that makes each additional spirit worth 1 more regen so that’s 2.5MP5 per spirit outside of the five second rule.
Feltail delight gives me 20 spirit so that’s 60 MP5 outside of the five second rule and about 18 MP5 inside the five second rule with my talents (mediation)
Added to that a quarter of that spirit goes to + healing, +5. Another 20 stam is an added bonus.
IMO in five man content stamina is arguably more important than +healing, with how lightly the mobs hit that extra 200 health can be the difference between dying or not on trash anyway. Chuck in that Feltail delight is much easier to come by and I think I’ll be using that for my instance buff food, leaving the undisputed king of healy buff food, Golden Fish Sticks, for raids.
Congrats on the column Matticus! Was a good read, great job for an opening post.
Goodjob Matt!!
Nicely done!
Incidentally, the comment on buff food here is one I’ve been debating myself. Before the most recent patch, I was a bigger fan of the sporefish than the fish sticks as well, but with the new changes to mana regen, I have yet to test the various kinds of food.
The (very much so) eye-watering mathematical calculation is easily circumvented by me sitting down and eating the three different kinds of food. and seeing what my stats turn into.
I haven’t had a chance to do this test (I’m reluctant to go back and log in my main toon, and my baby priest isn’t high enough to care yet) but I’m thinking that I may shift my priorities, using fish sticks for most times, and sporefish for when I need the extra stamina rather than +healing.
I still think both of them are better than the generic fish food – but without testing, it’s all just speculation! *grins*
Hey Matt, I stumbled upon your blog about a month ago, and have been a frequent visitor ever since.
Most of your articles doesn’t pertain to me (i are mage), but you have a keen insight on Raiding in general.
I recently went back through your older articles and just found out that we are on the same server! Small world!
Keep up the awesome job and congrats on being part of WI!
I forgot about spicy crawdad, that’s got 30 stam and 20 spirit.
*sigh* If anyone clicks my link in the above comment, I apologize. Didn’t realize until I’d it “Submit” the wrong link was associated with my name.
Great work, as always, Matt. And wonder of wonders…you managed to avoid the Troll pull!! 😉
Great article!
Even though my healing is limited to 10 man raids, the value of your experience isn’t lost on me.
Thanks.
