This continues to be a point of contention within my guild and among the community. There are two distinct groups of players out there: Those who dip their pizza in ranch and those who don’t.
Well, how about it? What do you think?

Does “ranch sauce” even exist outside the USA? I’ve never encountered it, that’s for sure. I have to say, though, the Wikipedia article makes it sound absolutely disgusting, so I’m pretty sure I’d never dip anything in it.
I sure could be wrong, but I think Matticus lives in Canada, so the question about “ranch sauce” existing outside the USA is answered right there… assuming I’m right about where he lives anyhow.
Ranch sauce is available in the UK – especially at Subway. Dipping sauces for Pizza have become standard in the UK with the major chains (Pizza Hut & Dominos) offering around 4 different ones to have with your pizza. I’m a garlic and herb girl myself. I think the dip has revolutionised my Pizza enjoyment.
Oh and one more thing @Kriyet dipping Cookies (Oreo’s etc) or as I like to correctly refer to them, biscuits, is not a US thing. Us Brits dip our biscuits in our tea – stick that soggy effort in your pipe and smoke it! The challenge is to get enough soakage without it dropping off into the bottom of your cup.
While I’d never call it ranch sauce. I do dip my pizza in ranch.
I usually refrain from dipping my pizza in ranch until I’m left with the bones. If there is marinara around, I’ll use that instead.
I have to say.. I do love me some pizza and ranch. During raids. So yummy..
I’d take ranch over marinara any day, though garlic butter is where it’s at.
I’m Italian, and I don’t think that “it’s a crime against humanity!” is enough to describe the tortures you barbarians inflict to pizza!
Sephirah – Were there enough places that made pizza as good as you can find in Tuscany, then there’d be no debate. But pizza here needs all the help it can get.
First time I encountered any extra sauce accompanying my pizza was at a New York Pizza establishment. I was shocked, though after trying it, I can see it being ok for certain toppings. But not for every pizza! Some pizzas you just eat the way they are made! I’d have to go with crime against humanity in general :p
I think it really depends on the pizza. If it’s from a chain, say Dominos or Papa Johns, and I happen to have the ranch because I was dipping wings, then I could see it. If I were eating from an actual pizzeria, definitely not. And I wouldn’t ever go out of my way for it.
Papa John’s offers all sorts of dipping sauces for your pizza crust (or cheese bread). While Ranch is good, some of the other ones are better. I like the Buffalo sauce (made with real Buffalos from Buffalo!) best.
But like Ellannan, I don’t go out of my way for it. If the dipping sauce is there, I’ll do it. But otherwise, I’ll take the ‘za as is.
Real pizza you eat with a fork and knife, yeah I’m from Chicago lol
Garlic butter!
I had never heard of the practice of dipping pizza in ranch sauce until I moved to the US, and frankly, I still find it mildly disgusting. Right up there with watching your oreo cookies dissolve into brown sludge – I mean dipping your cookies in milk, another amazing American culinary invention.
But my partner swears by both, sigh….
Only when my pizza is covered in wing sauce. Buffalo chicken pizza is AWESOME.
In Buffalo, NY dipping pizza in ranch sauce would get ya laughed at. However dipping pizza in blue cheese dressing is super tasty!
