- Heal.
- Heal normal dungeons.
- Heal heroic dungeons.
- Heal players in the world as they’re questing.
- Heal in battlegrounds.
- Heal in world PvP.
- Heal in arenas.
- Heal raids.
- Heal until a wipe has been called.
- Heal on a daily basis.
- Just keep healing.
Griping about how terrible healing is will not make you a better healer.
Healing will.
When I was young, I never wanted to leave the court until I got things exactly correct. My dream was to become a pro.

And – read. Don’t assume you know anything, even if you’ve been healing since Vanilla. Go read some analysis of what your class changes really mean. Read about the fights, then heal them, paying attention to what you learned about the mechanics. Spend a few minutes every day looking at blogs and resources.
+1!
IMHO, healers are typically the most aware and intuitive players which can sometimes lead to “I already know everything”. I fall into that trap myself sometimes. So right on, great tip! Read, read, read!
/Love … I’m really tired of people moaning about broken classes and whatnot.
My opinion: If you think your class is broken, you’re probaly not playing it right. 🙂
BUT MATT, HOW WILL I STROKE MY VICTIM COMPLEX IF I’M TOO BUSY HEALING TO CIRCLEJERK ON THE OFFICIAL FORUMS ABOUT HOW EVERYONE IN THE UNIVERSE BLAMES EVERY FAILURE EVER ON THE HEALERS AND HOW BLIZZARD ONLY WANTS TO MAKE THINGS HARDER ON THE HEALERS WHILE TANKS AND DOOPS CAN JUST SLAP THEIR DICKS AGAINST THE KEYBOARDS AND WIN?
I think I can heal. I’ve healed where other healers have failed, and done okay in my little Shadow spec. But the other half won’t let me, says I get angry. It’s okay, I won’t let him PvP.. same reason.
I keep healing myself in while hanging out in Ironforge and at full health. Does this help?
Oh totally, it’s great overhealing practice =)
Best post ever!
Zen. 🙂
I say zen because it also applies to DPS & tanking, just replace “heal” with your verb of choice.
Screw that. PTR Patch Notes almost med me do it in my pants. As holy they adressed about every concern i had and even taking it a bit longer.
What about standing around in Ogrimmar and healing players at the auction house? Does that count too? 😀
Damn right it does!
People are whining? It isn’t that healing is hard (harder than it used to be, sure), it’s that it’s hard to get DPS to stop standing in the fire in PuGs.
lol, best post ever.
.
But for those of us who aren’t pros: like the old saying goes, “insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” — keep thinking about the way you’re healing. If a certain boss is likely to do two big hits in a row, start loading up a heal ahead of time. Learn from mistakes.
I play all four healing classes (at least have off spec healed on them all, and am leveling them again in wrath to do the same) A huge gain from doing such, beyond nice que times and ease of spots in alt runs, is I know what the other classes and spec’s strenghts capabilities and most importaintly weaknesses are. It helps me adjust due to raid makeup or fight as a priest. And if in a leadership position (at least a healing one) I can with certainty help organize things competently. 😉
Matt, the opening post is very correct. Heal. and then heal more.
I let a Ret Pally die 5 times in stonecore standing in bad stuff it felt good not going to lie
Wonderful post! As a healer who has struggled in Cat, I think there isn’t any better advice than this! Heal, then heal some more. If you want to get better at something, keep doing it!
